PRODIGAL: The Heart of the Father

PRODIGAL: The Heart of the Father

The father in the prodigal son story was the real lavish spender - not just giving his inheritance once, but twice. He ran toward his son while he was still covered in mess, threw an extravagant party without requiring repayment, and celebrated restoration over rules. Which character in this story do you identify with most? The younger son needing to come home, or the older brother struggling with grace he didn't earn?

    Scripture References: 1 John 3:1, Romans 5:7-8, Luke 15:20-24, Luke 15:17-20, Luke 15:1

    From Series: "Prodigal"

The parable of the Prodigal Son reveals that both sons were actually lost - one physically distant but emotionally connected, the other physically present but emotionally disconnected from the father's heart. The younger son's journey from reckless living to rock bottom leads to a crucial moment of coming to his senses, where he remembers his father's house and decides to return home. Meanwhile, the older son's bitterness and self-righteousness show he was equally lost despite never leaving. This story illustrates that whether we're covered in pig slop or working in the field, we all need the Father's love and forgiveness. The gospel message shines through as both sons represent different ways people can be separated from God, yet the Father's heart remains patient, loving, and ready to welcome anyone home.
